Catherine Malandrino Spring 2011: Bon voyage!

Set inside the Grand Promenade at Lincoln Center, Catherine Malandrino’s presentation took us on a journey to the south of France. Models adorned in intricately beaded silk tops and colorful jumpsuits stood on the planks.

Malandrino revealed that the driving source of inspiration for her spring 2011 collection was an ancient piece of pottery she purchased during a recent trip to the south of France.

“The south of France was my muse,” Catherine Malandrino revealed. “I wanted to convey the country’s nice lifestyle in the collection, and create clothes with a perfect fit.”

Observing the collection at a first glance—from the leather macramé decorated necklines on the dresses, to the whimsical patchwork on the T-shirts and vests, along with the fitted boleros adorned with oversized, exotic medallions, it was clear to see that Malandrino had mastered her design objective. All of the clothes were full of mysticism and charm. Even the snaked gladiator sandals and watercolor print tops and bottoms, channeled the country’s timeless romance.

Countless celebrities such as style guru, Phillip Bloch, Keisha Nash Whitaker, celebrity stylist, June Ambrose, and the Hills’  Kristen Cavallari, came out to support Catherine Malandrino to get an earnest taste of her collection’s whimsical charm, perfect for a south of France getaway.
