NYFW: Douglas Hannant SS 2012

Hannant’s spring line was an ode to the high society of Shanghai, and no doubt his customers—the ‘high society’ of New York—will appreciate his references.

Lace pieces started the show, with ivory lace on ivory lace. An alligator lace blouse was a particular favorite—it had that element of ease that luxury American designers strive for. You could see the time period of the ’30s noted in the high-waisted linen skirt with leather buckle detailing and the loose trousers. Very Katharine Hepburn. Hannant featured a raffia dress and a raffia jacket, both of which were quite fetching.

Hannant ended the show with a parade of gowns—ideal for the crowd as the party season is upon us. A silver jacquard leopard gown was a real standout. The leopard was so subtle you barely noticed it, chic, not garish.  Lastly, a flapper dress embroidered with ostrich is fun for an evening, and a way to end the show!
