Nicola Formichetti for Mugler Fall 2011
The newly named Mugler, Fall 2011 collection was probably one of the most if not the most anticipated menswear show of the Fall 2011 collections. If you combine the hype of a legendary fashion house, with that of a stylist with a cult like following that happens to be behind one of the most powerful pop culture brands of the moment, you begin to get an inclination of how high the anticipation was for this showing.
Creatively directed by Lady Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti, the Mugler Fall 2011 of course included some theatrics, but also included a realness and practicality that some didn’t expect. Working with Romain Kremer, Formichetti did send down latex, past the elbow gloves, as well as veils billowing behind the model’s heads, but countered that with the soberness of a well cut blazer and finely tailored suits. The dichotomy seemed to meet best in the beautifully draped trousers that were sent down the runway.
While not every guy would be up for going to work with an organza veil trailing behind them(although I know a few “little monsters who would”) there certainly are a few who could use a smart suit or crisp blazer.
