United Nude launches flatpack shoe

In my years of fashion writing, I’ve had great opportunity to view and write about some unearthly fashion trends.  United Nude, I can safely say, has outnumbered, by far, all the other unusualness I have witnessed to date.  They’ve developed the first ever flat-pack shoe, fit for outer space, as part of a new project which looks at the idea of living in the cosmos.

“We were asked by artist Alicia Framis to create a conceptual shoe for space travel for the Moon Life project,” says the label’s creative director, Rem D Koolhaas. “We thought the further you send or ship something, the more important the weight and size - so the idea of ‘small and light’ led us to the flat-pack idea.”  ”I think it has a futurist and technical vibe to a very high extent,” the designer says. “Its innovative flavor might reach beyond the meanings of fashion, but in many ways I guess that’s what United Nude is all about.”
