NYFW FW 2011: LELA ROSE
Let’s take a trip down memory lane with Lela Rose on this one. Her inspiration came from a recent trip she took, to the Chicago’s Art Institute, where she just so happened to stumble upon an old flame, Gerhard Richter. His newsprint hazy paintings and scraping paint away from canvas technique look gave Lela Rose ideas for her Fall 2011 collection. A blurred plaid looked great on a silk chiffon dress with a long, airy train; earlier, for day, a simple sheath popped in a layered print of overlapping hues. Shoulders were nipped and tucked, waists were cinched, and necklines were high.
The structure was balanced out by Rose’s use of very sheer fabrics; lightweight yarns and chiffon woven together for an illusory heaviness. On the very clearly pretty side of things, berry lips, fingerwaved hair, rose dip-dyed feathers which created an ombré effect morphed the collection to look gentle and lush.
