Milan Menswear Fashion Week is the beginning of the Fall Season. It is followed by Paris Menswear, and Couture, before a small break and then the major weeks in New York, London, Milan, and finally Paris. Because of this, collections are watched closely to ascertain possible trends for the upcoming womenswear shows. Similarities in menswear collections and pre-fall collections will more than likely turn up in February and so close attention should be paid to leather, which seems to be the material of choice for the Fall season. Trussardi 1911 celebrated their 100 years at Pitti Uomo with a collection fully done in the material.

Costume National Fall 2011

The Costume National Fall 2011 show seemed more relaxed than anything else.  Dark, flyaway jackets and coats atop striped, scooped- or turtle- necked mohair sweaters were championed throughout the collection.  Accessories included a few bags, a clutch, and what appeared to be an iPad case or two.

The relaxed, slightly lived in look came from the theme “Rebel Tailoring“. Designer, Ennio Capasa took a lazer to a variety of pieces, slicing off dead weight, and leaving behind sometimes singed edges, and more importantly, a lightness in the collection.

Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2011

The Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2011 collection was said to be themed around tailoring as well.  Named “Eccentric Tailoring“, the collection was the debut of a new fit for the brand.  With shrunken coats and shorter jackets, the new proportions feature dropped crotches as well as lower rises in the pants.  Accessories gave ode to the Sicilian worker the brand was started for by way of suspenders, and Sicilian caps.  Fabrics included the distressed velvet you’ll find on Corey Baptiste to the right, as well as boiled flannels, checked velour, patent leather, and faux fur that made an appearance on a few coats.

John Varvatos Fall 2011

The John Varvatos Fall 2011 collection was one of layers.  Luis Borges(to your left) wears 4 himself for the show not including the scarf slung round his neck, nor the fingerless gloves warming his hands.  He wasn’t an abnormality in the collection.  Models came down the runway(a good many of whom had long billowing hair), made of train tracks to evoke the sense of the traveling man, in multiple layers atop seemingly lived in boots.  Mr. Varvatos says “He started in London and ends up here in Milan” of his muse.  Anyone traveling that much would need the layers in case of temperature change in addition to the bags and seems and edges as well as the boots would most certainly would appear to be lived in, as in the pieces that dominated the runway.
