Gilded Age Fall 2011 at New York Fashion Week

Thrifting.  Flipping through the images of the Gilded Age Fall 2011 collection presented at New York Fashioin Week, I couldn’t shake the thought of thrifting.

Not thrifting in the way that I knew it as a child, but instead, thrifting like like the fad that swept the industry at the beginning of the economic downturn.  The thrifting where you leave the store with an almost unworn navy blue peacoat , or some button down made of two different prints that someone dropped off because it was leftovers from a design idea they had.

The collection is one of impeccable pieces in a layered, almost roguish styling.  With base layers of flannel drooping down to exposure beneath well structured outerwear, the collection gives off a downtown New York vibe that’s unmistakeable.  It may be the thick and chunky black boots paired with slacks that remind me of school days on the mountain of Sewanee gone by, but the heavy foot wear would certainly stand up against the sludge of the upper east side.
