CELEBRATING PHENOMENAL WOMEN OF COLOR: Black Girls Rock!™

Black Girls Rock!™ is a nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to the healthy development of young women and girls. Each year the organization chooses key industry players to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the advancement of young women. CEO and founder Beverly Bond partnered with media influencers and community activists, including corporate sponsors CHEVY, TARGET and BET Networks and held several events uplifting Black girls who rock the from the boardroom to the stage.

The Black Girls Rock! 2011 show, hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, was taped on October 15th and was held at the historic Paradise Theater in Bronx, NY.  This year’s empowering show honored some of the world’s greatest women including Political Activist and Scholar Angela Davis, Gospel Singer Shirley Caesar, Academy Award-winning Actress Taraji P. Henson, WNBA President Laurel J. Richie, Actress Tatyana Ali and Directors of the Rebecca Project For Human Rights Imani Walker and Malika Saada Saar.  The all-female ensemble of performers included Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Melanie Fiona, Mary Mary, Elle Varner and Shirley Caesar. Beverly Bond executive produces the telecast along with Stephen Hill, President, Music Programming and Specials, BET Networks and Connie Orlando, Eugene Caldwell, Salli Frattini, BET Networks.
