In years past, we’ve seen many eras hit the runway. As we all know, trends repeat and each generation tries something new in order to make the trend their own. With each year comes something “new” (in a sense).
I came to Fashionistas last week with the colour of the year, honeysuckle. This week, I bring you the decades of the upcoming season. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the ‘60s and I’m glad to see that it’s hitting the forefront of fashion for spring. It’s all about looking lady-like. Think: “Prim and proper.” The sophisticated ‘70s look is making it’s way as well. “Vintage” is the word.
Granny skirts will be a hot topic this spring. Rather than frumping it down, sex it up with a trendy blouse! Modernize the granny skirt (similar to the photo shown above from the Fall 2010 Louis Vuitton runway show). Make it your own by layering them with a trench coat or a sweater. Will you be sexy, or sweet?
Kitten heels couldn’t possibly be trendy. Or could they? Over the holidays while watching the many episodes of Bewitched on TV Land, I must say, Samantha’s style impressed and inspired me — from her daytime errand ensembles to her around-the-house loungewear. Paired, once again, with the high-waist granny skirt, kitten heels have taken on a whole new look in the eyes of the fashionable. Plus, don’t you think those exhausted feet deserve a rest from the high-heel boot wearing this winter?
There’s just something about cat-eye sunglasses that resonate a Fashionista attitude. They’re also hitting the stores and boutiques this winter just in time for spring in many different frame shapes and color varieties. And if you’re not a fan of this style, you can take it ‘70s retro with exotic sunglasses such as the Dolce and Gabbana oversized duo-tone sunglasses (above) – they’re already waiting in my closet to wear come spring!
With the ‘70s pieces in your wardrobe, you can transform your look from the usual bohemian to sophisticated. High-waisted wide leg pants with a thin belt go nicely with a loose, flowing blouse. Be careful not to wear flats with them; instead complete the look with platform wedge sandals. Not sure what to do with the thigh-high boots in your closet from winter? Don’t do away with them just yet. Thigh-high boots will still work for spring as we enter the ‘70s! Pair them with hot pants or a skirt to renew the look.
When we think “spring”, we think of birth. We think of new life. Fashionistas, get ready for the rebirth of the ‘60s and ‘70s. How will you renew the trends?
