KATYA LEONOVICH FALL 2012
Designer’s Inspiration: Katya Leonovich who’s known to find inspiration in the environment she lives in found her inspiration this season in architecture. Her collection’s called “Architectural Aesthetics” and explores the different facades of architecture through their shapes, materials and colors.
Colors, materials and shapes: Leonovich used paintings of New York city buildings that she had made not only as the backdrop for her NYFW presentation but also as materials for some of her looks. Infused with purples and greens these looks’ colors are instantly reminiscent of Alexander McQueen’s fall 2010 Atlantis show. These prints are in contrast with the ripped tissue tubes, ridged metallics, sharp leather and edgy python that are used to give the collection more structure and sharpness that evoke the aesthetics of a skyscraper. The dresses and coats were the most successful pieces of the show as they truly conveyed an architectural and industrial essence.
What we really loved: The capes and coats of this collection may not be infused with colors and metallics and lots of detail but their shape and simple black and white color make them the perfect cosmopolitan cape and a season must have!
